pages) in APA format in which you cover the following content elements:
Describe/discuss what you believe are the four most
significant concepts from the video
Describe two challenges in finding a cure
Discuss two aspects of the stem cell controversy
Describe two approaches that help people cope with this

Week 1 DQ Psychosocial Issues in Huntington’s Disease.
Discuss psychosocial issues in Huntington’s disease. Some of
the issues may be from the following list. Use at least 3 of the following or 3
of your own, and provide a resource for your findings. Respond to at least one
other student in an evaluative or informative manner, not by stating “I agree.”
a. Individuals and their families must cope with continuing
losses, both physical and mental, as the condition progresses.
b. The cognitive and behavioral changes for affected
individuals may make it more difficult for them to cope.
c. Individuals and family members may feel helpless and
hopeless.
d. Faulty judgment and impulsivity related to behavioral
changes may result in unsafe situations for the individual.
e. As the condition progresses, individuals become less able
to care for themselves and thus become more dependent on others.
f. As communication becomes more difficult, social
interactions also become more difficult, resulting in increasing social
isolation.
g. Personality changes that may produce violent or hostile
behaviors may stress support systems.
h. Because Huntington’s disease has a genetic component,
family members may seek out genetic counseling to determine if they carry the
Huntington gene and may want to make decisions related to pregnancy.
Week 2 DQ Discharge Plan.
Consider: A client, diagnosed with schizophrenia, is the subject
of a discharge planning conference. The major focus of the discharge plan is
concerned with maintaining independence in daily living and employment. From
your knowledge of schizophrenia, list two specific issues that should
be considered in the discharge planning for the client’s
return to employment and community living.
a. Describe each of the two issues.
b. Provide a thoughtful intervention for each of the issues.
Briefly identify who would be included in the plan, what is to be done, and
identify at least one barrier to success.
c. Support your discussion with two literature resources in
addition to the Text. One of the resources must be a scholarly journal; the
other may be a professional website, i.e., American Psychological Association.
Remember to use APA style to format your citation(s).
d. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.
Week 3 Controlling Illness Called Asthma
Final Paper Outline. This outline will help prepare you to
write the final paper. The outline must contain:
a. Introduction with thesis statement
b. Major headings
c. Conclusion
d. Reference page containing at least three articles from
your research that you have read. The articles used should be current
(published within the last five years) and be listed in APA format.
Week 3 DQ Support Program Hunt.
Find one innovative and/or experimental client education or
support program relating to one of the diagnoses discussed in the required
readings, Chapters 10-13. In the post:

Week 4 Case Study Analysis.
Read the Case Studies on page 440 of your textbook. Select
one of the cases and in a 3-4 page paper (excluding title and reference pages),
describe the condition that is presented in the case and discuss how the
condition will affect the individual’s social experiences. Include a minimum of

APA references.
Use the following format:

b. Introduction: In an introductory paragraph, provide an
overview of the selected case, and main points of the paper.
c. Body:

signs and symptoms, course of the disease, prognosis, and resultant needs of
the patient.
iii. Discuss the various ways in which the condition will
affect the individual’s social experiences. Include:

Week 4 DQ Skin Conditions.
Discuss the psychosocial and vocational impact of skin
conditions. Specifically address at least two, and provide suggestions for
introducing the affected person into the work environment. Respond to at least
two of your classmates’ postings.
Week 5 Assignment Research Paper
Focus of the Research Paper
The final research paper for the course must be submitted to
the instructor no later than 11:59 p.m. of the time zone in which you reside on
the last day of the course.
The purpose of the Research Paper is to provide the student
an opportunity to investigate a specific issue or topic and research current
literature. Your paper must be 8 to 10 pages long and include at least five
sources from the Ashford Online Library.
In the Research Paper cover the following content
specifications:
Identify a chronic disease or condition and:
§ Describe the disease or condition from the medical
perspective.
§ Provide statistics/data on the numbers of people dealing
with/afflicted by the condition. Your data can be city, (e.g. San Francisco,
New York, Tulsa, etc.), county, state, e.g. Iowa, Georgia, CA), or US wide
specific. Make sure to cite your sources both in-text, and a reference page.
§ Research, identify, and discuss psycho –social challenges
of the afflicted patient population.
§ Research and discuss a minimum of two research projects
concerning the condition. Include the location of the research projects, and
the numbers of people/patients involved in the research studies.
§ Research, identify, and describe two successful community
based programs that help in meeting the needs of the population. How many
constituents are served by the programs? Budget? How long in operation? Funding
source (s)?
§ Describe a minimum of two interventions that could be
suggested to assist in minimizing the impact of the illness/condition. Justify
implementation of the two interventions you are recommending.
Week 5 DQ The U.S. Health Care System.
The U.S. Health Care System is frequently criticized as
being expensive and lacking coverage of the total population. On the other
hand, the U.S. Health Care System is innovative and frequently used by foreign
residents for treatment. Managed care was a response to the cost, quality and
coverage concerns. Consider the issues of care coordination,
prevention practices, formulary medication costs, delay in getting appointments
or tests, denial of referrals to specialists, inadequate skill of physicians
and the need for specific approval by an MCO before the most effective
medication for the treatment of a condition can be obtained
if the drug is not listed in the plan’s formulary. Assume a position either for
or against managed care. Find two articles supporting your position as it
relates to the client population in this course. The post will contain:
a. A statement identifying a support of or opposed to
position
b. Support of the position using the Text and two additional
references. If you use health care systems of other countries as a comparison,
please give the resource information for other students to read and compare the
systems
c. Make two suggestions that may enhance managed care for
the population of clients discussed in this course.
d. Discuss how a society’s social values influence the provision
of and payment for health services. Give two examples.
e. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.
